     Seville
Above: Seville's brilliant minaret, the Giralda, is topped with four copper
spheres. It dominates the Seville skyline and you can ascend the minaret for a
remarkable view of the city. Today, the Giralda is the bell tower of the cathedral.
Above: A residence of Muslim and Christian royalty for many centuries, Seville's Alcazar was founded in
913 as a Muslim fortress. A fascinating mishmash of styles, it has been adapted by Seville's rulers in
almost every century since.
Above: The magnificent Plaza de Espana with its fountains, canal and a dazzling semicircle of buildings
clad in ceramic tiles. This Plaza was constructed for the Seville Exposition.

fresh-squeezed orange juice, life is sweet in Seville!
Above: Seville is the great city of the Spanish south, with an abiding reputation for exuberance and
intensity. It has three important monuments: the Giralda tower, the Cathedral, and the Alcazar. Seville
also has an illustrious history, but it's the living self of this city of Carmen, Don Juan and Figaro that
remains the greatest attraction. The Seville Cathedral (seen above) is the world's largest Gothic church,
and houses the largest altarpiece in the world.
